Last week we received some exciting announcements from the Pokémon Presents showcase, most notably the Pokémon Trading Card mobile game, and the next chapter in Pokémon gaming; Pokémon legends Z-A; BUT did The Pokémon Company accidentally let slip the launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 and subsequently an estimated launch timeline for Nintendo’s next console?
What we know about Nintendo’s next console:
Previously suggested to be releasing in 2024, Nintendo’s next console had been thought to be releasing in the later half of 2024, perhaps for the holiday season. However, we now know that we can expect a new console from Nintendo in early 2025.
What we know about Pokémon Legends Z-A:
The announcement of a new Pokémon Legends game was probably all anyone in the Pokémon community really cared about hearing from the Pokémon Presents showcase, and while there was little detail revealed about the game, we know that we will be going back to the development of Lumiose City, that there will most likely be some element of mega evolution, and that it will be releasing in 2025.
So, has The Pokémon Company accidentally revealed that Pokémon Legends Z-A will be the launch title for the new Nintendo console? Here’s why I think YES.
During the announcement, it was stated that the game is “an ambitious new entry into the Pokémon video game series ” and that it “will launch on Nintendo Switch systems in 2025″.
The description of the game being “an ambitious new entry ” together with the neon art style of the footage we saw leads me to believe that this will be a Pokémon game unlike no other that we have played before. I feel like Arceus was a mere beta game in the grand scheme of things, and this… This is going to be something truly exciting. Perhaps there are graphics and/or game features that could only be possible or experienced to full potential on the new console. I’m very excited to find out more about it.
Also, the mention of the game being released on “Nintendo Switch systems’ didn’t go unnoticed. Systems is plural; now, this could be just the simple fact that there are 3 models of the Nintendo Switch – the original standard Switch, the Switch lite, and the Switch OLED – but I’ve never heard a game announcement referring to its release coming to ” Nintendo Switch systems” before; it’s usually just “coming to Nintendo Switch”. So, this is leading me to believe that Pokémon Legends Z-A will not only be available in the current Nintendo Switch format, but it will also be available on the next Nintendo console, which is sounding like it may in fact be named some variation of Nintendo Switch (perhaps the Switch 2 or Switch Pro). We’ve seen this happen with next gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5, making games available for both the PlayStation 5 and its predecessor the PlayStation 4, making games more accessible for players who may be unable to get the newer console. So it’s not a completely far fetched idea that Nintendo could be taking the same approach with Pokémon Legends Z-A.
With the next Nintendo console expected to be releasing in early 2025, will Pokémon Legends Z-A be the launch title? This all seems highly plausible to me, and I am guessing that by March 2025 we will be getting a new ground breaking game and Nintendo Switch console combo.
What do you think? Could this be true? Watch the Pokémon Legends Z-A trailer here and let me know what you think.
Until next time,
