All the Exciting Announcements from Pokémon Presents February 2024

By

After weeks of contemplative discussions sharing our Pokémon predictions and hopes for what is coming in the world of Pokémon gaming, all of our questions were answered with the Pokémon Presents showcase on February 27, 2024 (or February 28th if you’re in Australia like me). There were some super exciting (and surprising) announcements, and I for one am exceedingly excited for the next year of Pokémon.

From special in-game events, to new gaming experiences, this Pokémon Presents had it all. There are some things that I’m a little indifferent to, but mostly, I am VERY EXCITED. It really is so amazing that even after 28 years, Pokémon continues to evolve (excuse the pun) and bring so much joy in new ways to new and old players alike. So let’s take a look at what was announced and discuss more about it.

In-Game Events

Announced in the beginning section of the presentation were some in-game events for various games with some pretty exciting rewards. I’m mostly excited about the Tera Raids in Violet/Scarlet, but let’s take a look at all the announcements.

Tera Raid Battles

New Tera Raid Battles are coming to Pokémon Violet and Scarlet.
There will be 3 Tera Raid battle events giving you the chance to get the original starter final evolutions in tera form. Starting from 10.00AM AEST 28 February until 9.59AM AEST 6 March you will have the chance to get yourself A Might Venosaur; from 10.00AM AEST on 6 March to 9.59AM AEST on 13 March you will have the chance to get A Mighty Blastoise; and from 10.00AM AEST on 13 March to 9.59AM AEST on 18 March you will have the chance to get A Mighty Charizard.

There are, however, some restrictions that come with this event that are worth noting.
While you are able to participate in as many of these tera raid battles as you like during these events, you will only be able to catch ONE Mighty Venosaur, ONE Mighty Blastoise, and ONE Mighty Charizard. Participating in multiple raids will allow you to get all the extra benefits and rewards from the raid battle, but you can only catch the Pokémon once. What does that mean if you have already caught a Charizard in a previous event? Well, it means that you won’t be able to catch this Mighty Charizard, however, you can still get the other rewards from the raid and help your friends battle to help them get their Charizard. Also, you will need to have a Nintendo Online Membership if you are wanting to join your friends (or others online) in the Tera Raid Battles.

I’m an OG Pokémon fan, so any chance to get original starter-mons I will dive right into; definitely keen to get into this event.

Pokemon GO x Horizons Collaboration Event

From March 5 to March 11, Pokémon GO players will have a fun new event to introduce the Horizons era with the Pokémon GO x Horizons collaboration event. During this event, Pikachu will be making his debut wearing cap’s hate, and will have the new Volt Tackle attack move for Pokémon GO. Players will also be able to catch Ceruledge, Charcadet and Armarouge.

With the new Pokémon Horizons series starting on Netflix on March 5 in the US, this is an excellent way to bridge the old and the new era of Pokémon together and get familiar with new characters Liko and Roy. After an issue with my account and losing my Mewtwo and subsequently my entire Pokedex, I no longer play Pokémon Go, but I am sure that this collab will be a fun adventure with new friends.

Pokémon Sleep

Pokémon Sleep will be adding some new Pokémon friends to research, starting with Raikou coming at the end of March, with Entei and Suicune following. There is also a gift available for redemption until 4.59AM AEST 1 May. Simply log in and you’ll receive 10 Pokebiscuits and 1000 diamonds.

Pokémon Masters EX

Pokémon Master EX is celebrating 4.5 years with some exciting updates.
From 4.00PM AEST 28 February, Geeta and Glimmora will appear, and 1 March Silver (champion) and Tyranitar will appear. Sygna Suit Gladion and Magearna will also be appearing. A long awaited addition is finally coming, with the addition of the photo creator.

You will also have the opportunity to have Riley and Lucario join your team. All you have to do is complete the in-game event before 31 March to team up with them.

Pokémon Masters EX players will also receive a login gift of 3000 gems, so don’t forget to claim your bonus gift next time you login!

Pokémon Café ReMix

New content is coming to Pokémon Café ReMix.

Pay and solve puzzles to get rewards and collect Gimmighoul coins to find more rewards.

There are also new outfits with the opportunity to add Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly to your café staff. This event period is 27 February to 14 March.

If you’re a fan of Koraidon and Miraidon, then you will want to be sure to play the bingo events for your chance to have them join your café staff.

Pokémon Unite

Special events are starting today to give you some exciting additions to your game! Miraidon is available from today; Falinks in April; and coming soon, you will have the chance to get Ceruledge. Also from today until 23 March, you will have the opportunity to participate in the special event to earn Miraidon’s Unite License. The Pokemon Day Commemorative Event will give you a Sunshine Style Venosaur and the chance to get Holowear and more.

Also, we were given a special code to celebrate Pokémon Day. Use code POKEDAY24 before 9.59AM 1 April AEST to access a 3 day limited license for Miraidon and a platinum Miraidon boost emblem.

New Games

In-game event announcements are always cool, however, it’s the new games that we really want to know about. I’ve got to say, there was some really exciting new in relation to new games, and I am so pumped for it all! Let’s take a look:

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket

Pokémon cards have been loved by Pokémon fans worldwide since their launch in 1996. After 28 years of collecting and trading, Pokémon card fans are getting an exciting new way to collect, trade, and play, with Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket will let you enjoy all the fun of traditional cards in a digital format. You will be able to open packs, collect cards, trade them, and even battle. You will also be able to open 2 packs a day for free to add to your collection.

This mobile game is being developed as a third party collaboration with Creatures Inc (the creators of Pokémon Trading Card Game) and DeNA (their partners in the development of Pokémon Masters EX). They have been working hard to create digital cards that will not only enable (and respect) original TCG fans to enjoy Pokémon cards in a fun new way, but also introduce a new audience to the world of Pokémon TCG.

The developers are very passionate about the creation of Pokémon cards, doing their best to create the best images and colours for cards, and they are bringing this same level of devotion to creating their digital cards. By using the advantages of technology, they are bringing vibrant colour and stylish effects that are only available in a digital format. With this, we are getting a new style of card called “immersive cards”. These cards will take you into the image of the card to experience the scenery and the world within the image of the card.

In addition to these fun and beautiful new designs, new rules have been added to the game that will enable quick battles when you have some free time up your sleeves.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket launches in 2024.

Pokémon Legends Z-A

The presentation ended with one more huge announcement, and it was one that the Pokémon community was waiting for…

Presented with images of sketches, urban development plans and illuminated Pokémon in a Tron-esque style city, a new Pokémon Legends game was announced.

Pokémon Legends Z-A will be a brand new adventure set in Lumiose City; a city that is currently under re-development with the goal of being a place where humans and Pokémon can co-exist.

We didn’t get a lot of details on the game except for its title, location, and a release date of 2025. I am excited to find out more about this game over the next year, but I am assuming that given the 2025 release of this game it might in fact be the title release for the Nintendo Switch 2. We will have to wait to find out more, but I am very excited about this.

Pokémon X and Y Remake Teaser ???

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that teaser at the very end of the presentation?!

We were presented with the mega evolution symbol and sound… so is that Pokémon’s way of telling us to get ready for an X/Y remake?

With the end of Scarlet and Violet, the question does beg what is to become of Pokemon on the Nintendo Switch this year if the new Legends game isn’t releasing until 2025. So, will we perhaps be getting an X/Y remake to fill the gap this year? Only time will tell.

That was my recap of the Pokémon Presents for Pokémon Day 2024. Notable announcements for me are the Tera Raid battles for Scarlet/Violet, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, and the announcement of new Legends game, Pokémon Legends Z-A. I am very excited about all that… and to find out more about that cryptic ending with the mega evolution symbol.

I was kind of hoping for another Let’s Go style game announcement, but it’s clear that Pokémon has more to tell us, so we will wait and see what is to come. However, I am very very very pleased to know that we are getting another Legends game.

What was your favourite part of the presentation? Was there anything that you were hoping to see that didn’t appear, or anything that you were super surprised by? Let me know in the comments.
