My top 5 games of 2020

By

2020 might have been a crappy year in reality, but in a virtual world it was a pretty amazing year for gaming. So much happened in the world of gaming this year, and with so many great games out there it was easy to escape the harshness of what was occurring around us in the real world. Here’s my top 5 games of 2020…

5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales

This was my most anticipated game for release with the launch of the PS5 and it did not disappoint! I haven’t finished the game yet, but it has lived up to every bit of hype I had for this game. It picks up from after the previous Spider-Man game on PS4 (which I absolutely loved), and is just so much fun playing another branch of the Spiderverse. I really hope Sony continue to make other games like this within the Spiderverse.

I rate this game:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

4. Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity

This one is a late entry into my top games of 2020 having only received it for Christmas. I’ve played Hyrule Warriors before, but I didn’t really get into it – I just couldn’t vibe with it… but Age of Calamity is different. This one is basically a prequel to Breath of the Wild, acting out the war that ultimately lead to fall of Hyrule 100 years before Breath of the Wild. I’m yet to finish the game, but knowing how Breath of the Wild begins, am wondering if I am playing a game that is destined to end in tragedy, or is it an alternate universe where I can save Hyrule from the great calamity? Either way, I am loving playing out the story.

I rate this game:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

3. Astro’s Playroom

Astro’s Playroom was a pleasant surprise. For those lucky enough to get their hands on a PS5, this little beauty of a game was loaded onto the system upon set-up. It was a super fun little platformer that showcased all the new features of the DualSense controller. It was so immersive and captivating, and I had so much fun that I struggled to put the controller down because I just wanted to keep playing… and I did keep playing until I got that platinum trophy, but I will gladly go back to play again. Its just such a fun little game to play whether you have a spare 10 minutes or an hour and beyond. I highly recommend you play this if you have a PlayStation 5.

I rate this game:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

2. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

I’ve always been intrigued by Assassin’s Creed, but I had never played one, until now. When I first saw the Valhalla trailer, I was completely captivated and I knew that I was going to have to play this game. So when I got my PS5, I picked myself up a copy and never looked back. I’ve been sinking a lot of hours into this game and I am really enjoying exploring this beautiful open world and discovering everything. This game is insanely immersive – the imagery is beautiful, the soundtrack is great, and the story is super interesting. This game has action and adventure and is everything I could want in a game. I’ll be playing this one well into 2021.

I rate this game:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

1. Animal Crossing New Horizons

This game has been the perfect distraction from the year that was 2020. It was released at the perfect time when the world first went into a complete lockdown. Being cut off from everyone was tough, but there was just something so uplifting about building my own little island community. Also, being able to play with my friends by visiting each other’s islands was an amazing way to stay social and connected in a world where we were all being forced apart. This is just such a fun, wholesome game and is just a game that keeps on giving. This has been my most played game of 2020 and will continue to be a contender for most played in 2021.

I rate this game:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

And that’s my top 5 games for 2020… with next-gen gaming finally here, I am really looking forward to gaming in 2021.

Until next time…
